Overview

Before & After School Site Supervisor

The YMCA of the Pikes Peak region is looking for a compassionate, patient Site Supervisor to join our Before & After School program and help us to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our school aged children. The responsibilities of the Site Supervisor include creating an enriching learning environment and looking after the basic needs of the children under their care. To be a successful Site Supervisor, you should be patient, enthusiastic, and fun-loving. Ultimately, a top-notch Site Supervisor loves working with children and is passionate about child development and care.

 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  The Site Supervisor will administer, organize, and implement School Age Child Care Programs. You will provide leadership and supervision of the Before & After School Counselors and programming.  As the Site Supervisor you will oversee administrative and program details.  Each day, our Site Supervisors have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children, creating joy in each child's life by teaching through play and hands-on activities.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL SITE SUPERVISOR:

  • Supervise and evaluate Group Leaders, Assistant Group Leaders and volunteers if applicable
  • Demonstrate fiscal accountability by following assigned budget guidelines
  • Design and implement curriculum that focuses on social, emotional and cognitive development by using the YMCA’s Nine Afterschool Components
  • Provide caregiving activities and approach
  • Use a variety of different teaching techniques and methods 
  • Develop programs and location set up that will provide a safe and nurturing, yet fun environment for children and staff
  • Evaluate children’s engagement and performance, report on every child’s progress, ensuring every child is improving
  • Develop and maintain timely communication with parents 
  • Identify behavioral problems and provide positive discipline that is age appropriate and maintains respect for the child
  • Collaborate with other colleagues
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations 
  • Attend professional opportunities provided
  • Maintain State licensing and YMCA Association Standards and Minimum Guidelines

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS OF A BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL SITE SUPERVISOR:

  • 21 Years of age or older
  • Verifiable* education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting or 4-H
  • Completed at least one of the following qualifications: 
    1. A four (4) year college degree with a major such as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; or 
    2. Two years of college training and six (6) months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18), in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; or 
    3. Three years (5640 hours) of satisfactory* and verifiable* full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience and one of the following qualifications: 
      • Complete six semester hours, or nine quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university; or 
      • 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the department approved courses in injury prevention, and playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine months of employment
  • Additional teaching and/or educational license/certificate is a big advantage
  • In-depth knowledge of child development
  • Must enjoy working with children
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Creative and artistic teaching abilities
  • Attention to detail
  • Great amount of patience and flexibility
  • Experience in supervision of other employees

*Verifiable and Satisfactory experience includes experience in the care and supervision of four or more children from the ages of four (4) to eighteen (18) years old, unrelated to the individual, since attaining the age of eighteen (18).

Posted Salary Range

USD $16.00 - USD $19.20 /Hr.
