Overview

Climbing Wall Attendants are the primary point-of-contact for participants at the Climbing Wall. Climbing Wall Attendants’ first role is to provide belays for participants and maintain a space where all risks are managed appropriately. Climbing Wall Attendants are also responsible for the education and community building of the participants at the Southeast Family Center YMCA. Successful Climbing Wall Attendants have developed a strong sense of climbing safety at the YMCA, select appropriate routes for climbers, and make all participants feel included and welcome to the YMCA.

Responsibilities

  • Educate new participants in Climbing Wall policies, belay commands, and indoor rock climbing techniques and skills  
  • Assist in the facilitation of Climbing Wall events and programs 
    • Events and programs may require interaction with participants who are minors
  • Monitor Climbing Wall floor for hazardous behaviors, actions, and practices  
  • Performs daily, visual,and physical inspections of equipment  
  • Provide exceptional customer service to YMCA participants  
  • Follow, model, and enforce all Climbing Wall and YMCA policies and procedures  
  • Promote programs and service of the Climbing Wall and the YMCA  as a whole  
  • Uphold the mission and values of the YMCA.  
  • Establish and maintain clear and open communication with staff and supervisors  
    • Show respect to all co-workers/supervisors  
    • Be up-front and honest with all concerns  
    • Accept and use constructive criticism as a learning tool  
    • Perform other non-routine tasks as assigned by supervisors 
  • Provide belays to Climbing wall participants and facilitate each participant’s experience  

Qualifications

  • Attend YMCA staff trainings  
  • Must attend and complete YMCA Rock Wall Facilitator training prior to working the Climbing Wall.
  • Have weeknight/weekend availability and ability to work a minimum of two (2) shifts per week  
  • Must be certified in CPR and AED/ First Aid/O2 within 30 days of employment  
  • Applicants are subject to a background check, and employment is contingent upon the institution’s verification of the completion of the background check

Posted Salary Range

USD $14.42 - USD $16.20 /Hr.
