Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that campers experience safe, values-based, organized, and engaging camp programs. This position will mentor and lead the Program Staff team and will be a member of the summer Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance to all staff in all program areas.
  • Provide leadership in developing all camp games and themed skits /events
  • Responsible for running discovery signups and scheduling program area usage
  • Responsible for creating facility usage schedules (shower, trading post, trail rides, etc.)
  • Provide leadership and administrative support as directed by coordinating, organizing, or leading camp activities or by providing administrative office support as needed.
  • Participate and assist in designing/implementing Leadership Team training prior to staff training
  • Prepare for, assist in leading, and actively participate in staff training and staff meetings.
  • Direct programs that meet or exceed ACA and state standards.
  • Assume responsibility for the heath/welfare of campers and staff entrusted to his/her charge.
  • Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in the performance of job duties.
  • Observe camper and staff behavior and assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Consult with the Associate Executive Director daily concerning problems that need to be addressed and/or excellent staff performance.
  • Complete routine and required forms to include, but not limited to: staff evaluations, program supply requests, maintenance request forms, and incident and injury reports.
  • Demonstrate proper care and storage of all equipment and supplies.
  • Provide and ensure proper set up and cleanup of all programs and events.
  • Evaluate current season, make suggestions, and create a Program Coordinator manual
  • Will work stayover weekends as assigned.
  • May be called upon to live with a cabin group or to assist counselors with a cabin group.
  • These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous camp leadership.
  • Able to coordinate and supervise summer staff.
  • Must possess a cooperative spirit and be committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to campers, staff, and program participants
  • Must demonstrate leadership qualities-allowing for the development of personal and professional interpersonal relationships with staff, campers, parents, and others.
  • Must be committed to the mission of YMCA Camp Shady Brook and be an advocate and role model for staff and campers alike.
  • Previous experience and/or training in youth camping.
  • Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications
