A YMCA Head Swim Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a competitive swim team at a YMCA facility, including planning practices, managing assistant coaches, recruiting swimmers, coordinating competitions, maintaining swimmer development, and ensuring the program aligns with YMCA values and mission, all while prioritizing a positive and inclusive environment for athletes of varying skill levels; reporting directly to the Aquatics Director.

Design and implement effective training plans for swimmers of different abilities, including individual goal setting and technique refinement.
Supervise and mentor assistant coaches, assigning responsibilities and providing feedback.
Identify and recruit potential swimmers for the team, ensuring a diverse pool of athletes.
Organize and oversee all aspects of swim meets, including entry submissions, meet scheduling, and communication with officials. Assisting Swim Team Coordinator their responsibilities.
Maintain open lines of communication with parents, providing updates on swimmer progress and addressing concerns.
Focus on building swimmers' technical skills, endurance, and competitive mindset, while fostering a positive team culture.
Adhere to all YMCA policies, safety protocols, and guidelines related to aquatics programs.
Maintain accurate records of swimmer performance, attendance, and meet results.
Lifeguard Certification (YUSA or American Red Cross). Swim Lessons Instructor Certification. Willingness to attain certification.
Current coaching certification from a recognized organization, such as American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA), YMCA, or USA Swimming.
Ability to motivate and inspire athletes, manage a team of coaches, and effectively communicate with diverse groups.
Strong time management skills to effectively plan practices, competitions, and administrative tasks.
Commitment to the YMCA mission and core values, including inclusivity and positive youth development.
