Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Development Coordinator will be directly responsible for organizing and implementing school age childcare programs. You will provide leadership and guidance to staff and groups of children during the school year in Before & After Programs, School Out Days, and Break Camps as well as during Summer Day Camp. You will oversee administrative and program details while having the opportunity to create positive and nurturing relationships with children. You will also be a role model in building cooperative relationships with the parents/caregivers. As the Coordinator you will promote and support the potential of all youth in programs and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall participant experience. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with management of assigned Youth Development Program Areas.
    • Assists with identifying individual needs as it relates to program quality at each site as need arises.
    • Assist with staff guidance on proper procedures at site to meet expectations as needed.
    • Develop and create curriculum that is accessible to assigned program sites and that meets guidelines and expectations.
    • Shop for and prepare program supplies for developed curriculum.
    • Assist with organization and drop-off of supplies and snack to assigned areas.
    • Assists with any task or initiatives as needed.
  • Assist with all training efforts for new staff and the continued education of tenured staff.
    • Participate in the on-boarding process of new staff that will be running programs at sites such as interviews, training and coaching.
    • Fundamental in building guidelines and content of continued training, tracking of that training, and identifying material for review throughout the year based on site visits and feedback from staff.
    • Provide supervision and leadership in efforts to mentor & coach site directors, counselors, and aides within region on YMCA Association standards, state licensing requirements, and other job-related functions
  • Assist with all state licensing and health department needs and correspondence.
    • Assist with tracking and maintaining state licensing and YMCA association standards and minimum guidelines across assigned program areas.
    • Complete, track, and report on routine program audits for sites quarterly. Identify and establish trends to improve training.
    • Be familiar with and able to teach the program’s policies, health and safety regulations, emergency procedures and be ready to implement if necessary.
  • Demonstrate fiscal accountability by assisting with management of assigned budget guidelines.
  • Maintain timely and professional communication and kind relationships with parents, peers, supervisors, & staff.
  • Collaborate with other colleagues
  • May be required to work hours outside of normal work schedule for training, extended program hours, parent nights, or association events.
  • Communicate effectively with all other staff, parents, and participants.
  • Be available to substitute, in or out of ratio, and travel throughout the region we serve (Fountain to Monument). 

 

Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Verifiable*education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting or 4-H
  • Completed at least one of the following qualifications:
    • A four (4) year college degree with a major such as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; OR
    • Two years of college training (60 credits) and six (6) months (455 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18), in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; OR
    • 21 months (3185 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part time, paid of volunteer, experience and one of the following qualifications:
      • Complete six semester hours, or nine quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university; OR
      • Forty (40) clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the department approved courses in injury prevention, and playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine months of employment.
    • A current early childhood professional credential level 2 or higher in version 3.0 as determined by the Department based on its Early Childhood Professional Credential 3.0 Worksheet.
  • Additional teaching and/or educational license/certificate is preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of child development

*Verifiable and Satisfactory experience includes experience in the care and supervision of four or more children from the ages of four (4)-eighteen (18) years old, unrelated to the individual, since attaining the age of eighteen (18). Babysitting and Nannying are not accepted.

Posted Salary Range

USD $22.00 - USD $24.00 /Hr.
